What Are Rustic Hardwoods?
Many of our Amish craftsmen offer their furniture produced in what is known as rustic or character hardwoods. Rustic hardwoods include the knots, gum pockets, heart wood and sap wood that provide a unique, natural look to the furniture, while premium hardwoods are selected to eliminate these imperfections.
Rustic cherry and character quarter sawn white oak have emerged as the two most popular wood species and types for furniture production. Typically the rustic hardwoods are less expensive than their premium counterparts.
